Prevention of Child Pornography Ordinance

The Prevention of Child Pornography Ordinance (Cap. 579) comes into operation on 19 December 2003.

Under Article 34 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which applies to Hong Kong, children should be protected from all forms of sexual exploitation and sexual abuse. The new Ordinance offers better protection to children against sexual exploitation.

The Ordinance prohibits child pornography, pornographic performance by children and child sex tourism. It strengthens protection to children by criminalizing the printing, making, producing, reproducing, copying, importing, exporting, publishing, possessing and advertising of child pornography.
