Appointment of the Chairperson of the Guardianship Board

The Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee Hwa, has appointed Mr Charles Chiu Chung-yee as the Chairperson of the Guardianship Board for a period of three years starting February 1, 2003.

The appointment will be published in the Government Gazette tomorrow (January 24).

Mr Chiu has been in practice as a solicitor in Hong Kong for over 20 years. He has been actively involved in many public and community services and was appointed a Member of the Guardianship Board on February 1, 2002. An open recruitment exercise was held to identify the most suitable candidate to fill the position of Chairperson.

Miss Paula Scully, the outgoing chairperson will have served the Guardianship Board for four years when she leaves by the end of this month. She had informed the Administration of her intention not to seek renewal of contract.
