< Back

The Government today (April 15) announced the findings of the latest review of the tar and nicotine yields of the 85 best-selling cigarettes in Hong Kong in 2002.

According to the review, the average tar and nicotine yields of these cigarettes are 10.8 milligrams and 0.85 milligrams per cigarette (mg/cig) respectively. A spokesman said this was a decrease of 0.4 mg/cig in tar yield and 0.02 mg/cig in nicotine yield compared with the previous year's findings.

"Of the 85 brands of cigarettes, 37 brands are classified as the low tar group (0-9 mg/cig), 34 brands as the middle tar group (10-14 mg/cig), and 14 brands as the high tar group (15-17 mg/cig)," he said.
