No worry for outbreak in Tung Tau Estate and Koway Court

< Back

In response to media enquiries, a Government spokesman said that in his remarks at Legislative Council's Health Services Panel this morning (May 7), the Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food, Dr Yeoh Eng-kiong, referred to the general environmental factors that could cause the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) cases in Tung Tau Estate and Koway Court.

The Director of Health, Dr Margaret Chan, in her daily briefing on SARS, spoke of the importance of environmental disinfection by the residents that led to a zero report of cases in the two housing estates in the past three weeks.

She said that there was no cause of worry on the environmental side that could lead to an outbreak like that of the Amoy Gardens in the two estates.

Both Dr Yeoh and Dr Chan reminded the public that the cleansing and filling of the U-trap in each flat with water were important in the prevention of the disease.
