Appointment to Lotteries Fund Advisory Committee announced

The Government today (August 29) announced the appointment of a new member and re-appointment of eight incumbent members to the Lotteries Fund Advisory Committee (LFAC) for a period up to August 31, 2005.

Mr Suen Leung-kwong has been newly appointed to the committee and his appointment will be effective on September 1. He is a senior executive of a welfare agency and a member of the Social Welfare Department's District Coordinating Committee on Elderly Services.

The remaining eight members to be re-appointed are: Miss Anna May Chan Mei-lan, Mr Ching Cheung-ying, Mr Vincent Lo Wing-sang JP, Mrs Agnes Mak Tang Pik-yee JP, Dr Wong Chun-por, Miss Gabriella Wong Siu-ling, Mr Henry Lau King-chiu and Mr Aaron Wan Chi-keung JP. The re-appointment of the former six members will also be effective on September 1 while that of Mr Lau and Mr Wan will take effect on October 1.

"The nine members come from a wide range of professions and will be able to draw on their expertise and experience in serving the committee," a Government spokesman said.

Miss Nancy Tsang Lan-see, who has served on the committee for seven years, will retire from the committee. "We wish to express our thanks and appreciation to Miss Tsang for her valuable contribution towards the work of the committee in the past seven years," the spokesman said.

The committee will continue to advise the Director of Social Welfare on applications from welfare agencies for allocations from the Lotteries Fund and for permission to hold flag days.

Besides, the responsibilities of the committee will be expanded to include advice on the setting up of a voluntary registration system recently proposed by the Social Welfare Department for enhanced monitoring of charitable fund-raising activities.
