SHWF to attend WHO Regional Committee for Western Pacific

The Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food, Dr Yeoh Eng-kiong, will attend the 54th session of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Regional Committee for the Western Pacific in Manila .

Dr Yeoh will be joined by the Director of Health, Dr Lam Ping-yan; and Consultant Community Medicine (Communicable Diseases) of the Department of Health, Dr Thomas Tsang Ho-fai.

Organised by the WHO Western Pacific Region, the 54th session of the Regional Committee will be held from September 8 to 12 in Manila, the Philippines. Dr Yeoh will take part in the discussion on severe acute respiratory syndrome and the ministerial round table.

"The Regional Committee provides a valuable platform for member states and areas in the Western Pacific Region to exchange information and ideas on medical and health issues of common concern," Dr Yeoh said.

"We will take this opportunity to share experiences on ways in which public health practices can be improved in the region for the benefit of the global community."

Dr Yeoh will depart on Tuesday (September 9) in the afternoon and return to Hong Kong on the evening of September 11.

The annual session of the Regional Committee is attended by 37 member states and areas in the Western Pacific Region.
