Reports of increase in medical fees clarified

< Back

Referring to reports in the electronic media saying that the Government was considering an increase in medical fees, a spokesman for the Health, Welfare and Food Bureau today (October 25) clarified that the translated remarks made by the Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food, Dr Yeoh Eng-kiong, when asked in Macao about the chance of an increase in medical fees next year were as follows:

"The Financial Secretary will announce in the Budget how the freeze on Government fees and charges would be handled. We would only look at the charges again later on. The most important principle is that in Hong Kong, no one will be deprived of appropriate medical care because of a lack of means."
