Consultation on penalties for repeat cleanliness offenders +extended

< Back

The Health, Welfare and Food Bureau (HWFB) announced today (November 19) that the public consultation exercise on the proposed new penalties for repeat cleanliness offenders has been extended for one month to December 23.

Launched on October 23, the consultation exercise aims to seek public views on whether community service orders should be imposed on repeat offenders against the cleanliness law.

A HWFB spokesman said: "In view of considerable public concern about the proposal and in response to requests for extending the consultation period, we have decided to extend the consultation for a month.

"We hope members of the public who have not yet expressed their views could take this opportunity to send in their comments on the proposed additional penalties for habitual cleanliness offenders.

"Views gathered during the consultation exercise would be taken into consideration in the way forward," the spokesman said.

Copies of the consultation pamphlet are available at all District Offices of Home Affairs Department and Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD). The pamphlet can also be downloaded from the websites of HWFB and FEHD at www.hwfb.gov.hk and www.fehd.gov.hk respectively.

Completed reply slips should be sent in by December 23 by post to the Food and Environmental Hygiene Division, HWFB, 10/F, Citibank Tower, 3 Garden Road, Central, or by fax to 2136 3281 or e-mail to cleanliness_consultation@hwfb.gov.hk.
