Appointments to Social Welfare Advisory Committee
The Government announced today (November 21) the appointment of two new members and the re-appointment of 10 incumbent members to the Social Welfare Advisory Committee (SWAC) with effect from December 1.
The two new members are Mr Yeung Tak-wah, Silva and Mrs Chung Chan Lai-foon, Miranda.
Mr Yeung is the General Secretary of the Wai Ji Christian Service. He has been actively involved in rehabilitation work for the mentally handicapped, particularly in vocational rehabilitation and sports for people with disabilities. As the Chief Executive of the Pok Oi Hospital, Mrs Chung has rich experience in community service and expertise in social work training in her various capacities over the last 30 years.
Ten incumbent members have been re-appointed. Five are re-appointed for a term of one year: Mr Yau How-boa, Stephen; Mr Darwin Chen; Mr Lee Chee-wah, Wilfred; Dr Leung Cho-bun; and Mr Poon Huen-wai. The other five are appointed for a term of two years: Professor Mak Ping-see, Diana; Mr Wan Chi-keung, Aaron; Miss Yu Sau-chu, Jessie; Miss Fang Meng-sang, Christine; and Ms Wong Yu-pok, Marina.
Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food, Dr Yeoh Eng-kiong, welcomed the appointment of the two new members and the re-appointment of the 10 members. He said he looked forward to their contribution to the development of welfare policy issues relating to welfare development.
Dr Yeoh also thanked the two outgoing members - Miss Wan Lai-yau, Deborah and Mrs Leung Ling Tien-wei, Mary - for their contribution to the work of the SWAC during their terms of office.
The functions of the SWAC are to keep social welfare services under continuous review, and to advise the Government on all matters of social welfare policy.
