Investment in infectious disease control

< Back

In response to press enquiries, a spokesman for the Health, Welfare and Food Bureau said today (March 23) that the Government had invested substantially to enhance Hong Kong's capacity to deal with infectious diseases.

These included an allocation of $250 million to the Hospital Authority (HA) in the 2004-05 fiscal year and another $550 million in the coming fiscal year for strengthening infectious disease control, the spokesman said.

"The additional provision allows the HA to recruit additional manpower in coping with the increased workload as well as to implement effective infection control measures," he said.

The Government had also allocated resources to the HA and the Department of Health to strengthen their training programmes in infectious diseases, the spokesman added.
