Appointments to Hospital Authority
The Government today (April 1) announced the appointment of five new members and
the re-appointment of an incumbent to the Hospital Authority (HA) for a two-year
term with immediate effect.
The new members are: Prof Lai Kar-neng; Mr Lawrence Lee Kam-hung; Mr Peter Lo
Chi-lik; Mr Charles Peter Mok and Dr Eden Woon Yi-teng.
Prof Lam Shiu-kum, who is the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of the University
of Hong Kong, has been re-appointed as member to the HA.
Following is a brief biography of the new members:
Prof Lai Kar-neng is a chair professor of the Faculty of Medicine of the
University of Hong Kong and the Cluster Chief of Service (Medicine) of Queen
Mary Hospital. He is the president of Hong Kong College of Physicians, and a
member of the Medical and Biological Panel of the Research Grant Council of the
University Grants Committee, and Clinical Review Board of Hong Kong Sanatorium
and Hospital. Internationally, he is an advisor of the Royal College of
Physicians of London, and a member of the Association of Physicians of Great
Britain and Ireland and Nephrology Evaluation Board of the Faculty of 1000
Medicine.
Mr Lawrence Lee Kam-hung has served as a member of the Hospital Governing
Committee of the Grantham Hospital and the Professional Events Committee of the
Hong Kong Securities Institutes since 1992 and 1999 respectively. He has also
served on the Buildings & Tenders Sub-Committee (1999-2001) and the Supervisory
Committee of the Hong Kong Housing Society (2001-2004). He is the chairman and a
partner of Baker & Mckenzie Solicitors and Notaries. He is a solicitor who has
been admitted to practice in Hong Kong since 1981.
Mr Peter Lo Chi-lik is a Council member of the Law Society of Hong Kong and has
become a vice-president of the society since May, 2004. He is a solicitor who
has been admitted to practice in Hong Kong since 1976 and is a partner of the
firm of Woo Kwan Lee & Lo.
Mr Charles Peter Mok is a member of Consumer Council, Digital 21 Strategy
Advisory Committee, and Transport Advisory Committee. He is the ex-officio
member and former president of the Hong Kong Information Technology Federation.
He is currently the chief executive officer of Globe Technology Development
Limited, a wireless information technology developer.
Dr Eden Woon Yi-teng, JP, is currently the chief executive officer of the Hong
Kong General Chamber of Commerce. He is a member of Hong Kong Council for
Academic Accreditation, Ocean Park Corporation Board and Securities and Futures
Commission Advisory Committee. He has a doctorate degree in Mathematics from the
University of Washington.
As of today, the HA comprises a chairman, three public officers, one principal
officer from the HA and 23 non-official members. The new membership list for the
