Mainland and Hong Kong Joint Events in Celebration of "Beijing+10"

The Women's Commission (WoC) and the Health, Welfare and Food Bureau led a delegation of women representatives to Beijing today (April 24) to attend the Mainland and Hong Kong Joint Events in Celebration of "Beijing+10" on April 25 and 26 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women and the adoption of the "Beijing Platform for Action".


Co-organised by the WoC, the Health, Welfare and Food Bureau, and the All-China Women's Foundation, the events include a seminar, visit and tour programmes.


The HKSAR delegation is led by the chairperson of the WoC, Mrs Sophie Leung, with the Deputy Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food, Ms Linda Lai, serving as the deputy delegation head. The Permanent Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food, Mrs Carrie Yau, is also going to Beijing as one of the officiating guests at the seminar. Deputy Director-General of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR, Ms Guo Li, will be the honorary adviser to the delegation and one of the officiating guests.


The United Nations "Fourth World Conference on Women" was held in September, 1995, in Beijing, during which the "Beijing Declaration" and "Beijing Platform for Action" were adopted. The Platform aimed to empower women to participate in economic, social, cultural and political decision-making.
