SHWF visits Kowloon City District
The Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food, Dr York Chow, this afternoon (April
26), visited Kowloon City District to update himself on the latest developments
in health, welfare and environmental hygiene issues under his portfolio.
Accompanied by District Officer (Kowloon City), Mr Kevin Yeung, and District
Social Welfare Officer (Kowloon City), Mrs Barbara Lai, Dr Chow arrived at the
Kowloon City Integrated Family Service Centre and Social Security Field Unit of
the Social Welfare Department at Ma Hang Chung Road to look at their daily
operations.
Dr Chow met members of a volunteer group for single parents in the centre.
Members shared with Dr Chow their experience in volunteer work, saying that this
had helped them build up a social network, whereby they could share among
themselves their problems and engender a sense of mutual support.
Dr Chow inspected some environmental black spots at the rear lanes of Hau Wong
Road where a dozen licensed food establishments are located. During the
inspection, he was briefed on the cleaning and blitz operations carried out by
the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department.
He was pleased to see that there had been improvements in the environment in the
locality as a result of the joint efforts by government departments and the
community.
Dr Chow also took time to tour the Kowloon Walled City Park.
During today's district visit, Dr Chow met local representatives including the
chairman of the Kowloon City District Council, Mr Wong Kwok-keung, and
vice-chairman, Mr Chan Ka-wai, to exchange views on various issues in the
district.
