SHWF calls on Vice-Governor of Guangdong

The Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food, Dr York Chow, called on the Vice-Governor of Guangdong, Ms Lei Yulan, during his visit to Guangzhou today (April 28) to strengthen ties with the relevant provincial authorities.


During the meeting between Dr Chow and the Vice-Governor in charge of health matters, both sides exchanged views on public health, disease notification, prevention of AIDS, development of Chinese medicine and elderly affairs.


It was Dr Chow's first official visit to Guangdong after assuming the post of Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food since last October. Accompanying Dr Chow were the Director of Social Welfare, Mr Paul Tang; Deputy Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food, Miss Suise Ho; Consultant of the Centre for Health Protection of Department of Health, Dr Thomas Tsang; and Assistant Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene, Dr Thomas Chung.


In the morning, Dr Chow met with the Director-General of the Guangdong Provincial Civil Affairs Bureau, Mr Yang Huawei, to enhance mutual understanding and collaboration in welfare services. He then visited the Home for the Aged Guangzhou to see for himself the operation there.


Accompanied by Deputy Director-General of Department of Health of Guangdong Province, Dr Liao Xinbao, Dr Chow visited the Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital in the afternoon to gain first hand experience of the operation there. He was shown to the infection control branch, fever clinic and outpatient clinic.


At night, the Director-General of Department of Health of Guangdong Province, Professor Yao Zhibin, hosted a dinner for Dr Chow.
