Vice Minister of Health in HK to discuss arrangements for tripartite meeting
The visiting Vice Minister of Health,
Professor Huang Jiefu, today (June 20) met the Secretary for Health, Welfare and
Food, Dr York Chow, to discuss the arrangements and agenda for the Fourth Joint
Meeting of Senior Health Officials of the Mainland, Hong Kong and Macau to be
held in October in the Mainland.
Speaking after their meeting, Dr Chow said the tripartite meeting had underlined
the resolution and determination of health authorities in the three places to
safeguard public health in a coordinated manner.
He said: "The Ministry of Health had been maintaining close liaison with the
Health, Welfare and Food Bureau and the Department of Health of the HKSARG in
discussing matters of public health concern to both sides. Mutual communication
and cooperation, particularly on infectious diseases, have been greatly enhanced
since SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome)."
First convened by the Chinese Ministry of Health in 2002, the tripartite meeting
is aimed at promoting timely communication, experience sharing, cooperation,
health reform and development as well as disease control among the three places.
The third joint meeting was held in Hong Kong on October 15 and 16, 2004.
