< Back

The Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food, Dr York Chow, said today (June 23) that he regretted to hear Dr William Ho's intention not to renew his contract as Chief Executive of the Hospital Authority (HA) upon expiry of his current contract on September 20, 2005.

But Dr Chow said he respected the decision of Dr Ho.

"In the past six years, Dr Ho has led the HA management in initiating structural and human resources reform, and in courageously rising up to the challenges of new infectious diseases and has made valuable contributions in this regard," Dr Chow said.

"My deep appreciation goes to Dr Ho. His decision to assume a leadership role in developing the specialty of Community Medicine is admirable.

"The HA will soon begin an open recruitment for a new Chief Executive. I firmly believe that colleagues in the HA would continue to wholeheartedly serve the Hong Kong community."

The HA announced today that Dr Ho had expressed his intention not to renew his contract as Chief Executive of the HA when his current term expired. Dr Ho had agreed to stay with the HA and to assume a leadership role in developing the specialty of Community Medicine.
