Appointment to the Hospital Authority

< Back

The Government announced today (October 13) the appointment of two new members and the reappointment of three members to the Hospital Authority (HA).

The two new members are Dr Margaret Chung Wai-ling and Ms Polly Lau Mo-yee who will serve for two-year terms with effect from December 1.

Dr Margaret Chung, an expert in Biomedicine, is currently a member of the Health and Medical Development Advisory Committee and the Rehabilitation Advisory Committee. She has been an advocate for patients' self-help and mutual help for many years and is a founding committee member of the Alliance for Patients' Mutual Help Organisations as well as the Hong Kong Arthritis and Rheumatism Foundation.

Ms Polly Lau is a cluster manager (Physiotherapy) of the Kowloon Central Cluster of the HA. Her appointment follows the long-established practice of the Government to include a staff member of the HA on its board. Ms Lau will fill the vacancy left behind by Dr Loretta Yam, who resigned from the board in June. Ms Lau is currently the president of the Hong Kong Physiotherapy Association.

Mr Paul Yu Shiu-tin and Dr Anthony Ho Yiu-wah have been reappointed as members of the HA. Professor Thomas Wong Kwok-shing has also been reappointed in his capacity as the Dean of the Faculty of Health and Social Science at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. All the reappointments are also for a term of two years with effect from December 1.

Meanwhile, five members will retire from the board on December 1. They are Mrs Eleanor Ling Lee Ching-man, Miss Eliza Chan Ching-har, Miss Iris Chan Sui-ching, Mr Lo Chung-hing and Dr Lily Chiang.

The Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food, Dr York Chow, expressed his gratitude to the retiring members for their advice and contribution to the HA over the years.

"My thanks go in particular to Mrs Eleanor Ling who has been the chairperson of HA's Human Resources Committee, Staff Appeals Committee and Board of Trustees of the Hospital Authority Provident Fund Scheme. My gratitude also goes to Miss Eliza Chan and Dr Lily Chiang who are chairpersons of the Public Complaints Committee and Supporting Services Development Committee respectively. Their advice is invaluable and has helped the HA develop and realise its mission," he said.

From December 1, the HA board will comprise a chairman, 19 non-official members, three public officers and one principal officer from the HA. The new membership list of the HA is as follows V
