Registration Cards for People with Disabilities to be renewed in phases
The Central Registry for Rehabilitation (CRR) of the Health, Welfare and Food
Bureau will next month (May) launch an 18-month renewal exercise for
Registration Cards for People with Disabilities, under which 40,000 registration
cards will be renewed according to their date of issue.
Holders of cards issued in 1999 will receive invitations for card renewal by
post in the coming months, to be followed by others when their turn is due.
A spokesman for the bureau said today (April 28) that in a bid to enhance the
credibility and acceptance of the Registration Cards, the CRR had begun to issue
improved designed cards, which showed the photo of cardholders and were printed
on security paper, to the disabled in July last year.
The timetable for the renewal exercise is as follows V
Year of Issue Renewal Period
1999 May to July, 2006
2000 August to October, 2006
2001 November 2006 to
January 2007
2002 February to April, 2007
2003 May to July, 2007
2004 and 2005 August to October, 2007
"To enhance the credibility of the new Registration Cards and their acceptance
to users, applicants for issue of new cards or card renewal are required to
submit disability certification by registered medical practitioners (in public
or private practice) or allied health professionals," the spokesman said.
"The CRR has sought assistance from the Social Welfare Department, Special
Schools, Vocational Training Centres and rehabilitation agencies. Users of their
services can authorise them to assist in the updating of cardholders'personal
particulars and need not provide separate certification of disability status."
Applicants for card renewal are required to send their completed application
form together with disability certification and the old cards to the CRR
according to the timetable. New cards will be issued to them after verification
of the documents.
Details of the renewal exercise and relevant information will be set out in the
invitation letters to be sent to old cardholders in batches and soon to be
uploaded to bureau website. Other information concerning the Registration Cards
is outlined in the Guidance Notes for applying Registration Cards. For
enquiries, please contact 2509 4891, 2509 4904 or 2509 4905.
