SHWF to visit Germany
The Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food, Dr York Chow, will leave tomorrow
(August 29) for a four-day visit to Germany to learn more about horse import
arrangements and the health and welfare of horses in competition, to prepare for
the Olympic and Paralympic Equestrian Events in Hong Kong in 2008.
During his visit, Dr Chow will attend the FEI World Equestrian Games Aachen 2006
in Aachen, Germany, the biggest equestrian event before the 2008 Olympics, and
meet with Games officials to better understand the operation of the event.
He will also call on officials of the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and
Consumer Protection to discuss issues including equine import and export
arrangements, quarantine stables and health certification.
Dr Chow will meet officials and veterinarians of the International Federation
for Equestrian Sports and brief them on Hong Kong's import arrangements for
horses participating in the 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Equestrian Events.
