Jockey Club Arts for the Disabled Scheme Annual Performance 2006
The Executive Director of Charities of The Hong Kong Jockey Club, Mr William Yiu,
tonight (December 9) officiated at the opening ceremony of the Jockey Club Arts
for the Disabled Scheme (JCADS) Annual Performance 2006.
The event was organised by the Health, Welfare and Food Bureau and sponsored by
The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. It was the major publicity programme
of JCADS in this year, with the aim of providing artists with disabilities the
opportunity to perform with other artists on stage and to promote the spirit of
a society for all.
Performers of the Annual Performance 2006 comprised trainees of arts training
programmes of the Scheme, which include: the band of the Hong Kong Society for
the Blind, the drama team of Heep Hong Society Pak Tin Early Education and
Training Centre, the African drum team of Fu Hong Society Shun Lee Adult
Training Centre, the dance group of Hong Kong Society for the Deaf Bradbury
Special Child Care Centre, the wheelchair dance team of the John F. Kennedy
Centre, the modern dance group of Rotary Club of Hong Kong Island West Hong Chi
Morning Hope School, the Hip-hop team of New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation
Association, and the shadow puppet group of Po Leung Kuk Law's Foundation
School. More than 1,300 people enjoyed tonight's performance.
JCADS is a pilot project for enhancing the development of people with
disabilities in the arts and cultural fields. The Hong Kong Jockey Club
Charities Trust has donated $27.71 million for implementation of the pilot
project. JCADS has provided basic arts training to more than 20,000 people with
disabilities.
JCADS Annual Performance 2006 is also one of the performing arts programmes of
the International Festival of Inclusive Arts.
