The following is issued on behalf of the Committee on Reduction of Salt and Sugar in Food:

To promote a healthy and delicious diet, the Food and Health Bureau, the Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) and the Committee on Reduction of Salt and Sugar in Food (the Committee) joined with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) to invite renowned chefs Sandy Keung, Ricky Cheung and Bonnie Yves to show how to cook with reduced salt and sugar at the "Star Chef Cooking Demonstration" sessions at the Food Expo organised by the HKTDC today (August 18) and August 20 respectively.

The Chairperson of the Committee, Mr Bernard Chan, said, "Food with less salt and sugar doesn't mean tasteless food. With the smart use and good match of the ingredients, ideas and creativity, we can come up with delicious food by highlighting the natural flavour of the ingredients while adding less salt and sugar. I encourage all of us to practise the low-salt-low-sugar new cooking ideas to cook healthily and eat healthily."

Mr Chan attended the "Star Chef Cooking Demonstration" session at the Food Expo today. He accompanied a renowned chef to demonstrate how to prepare reduced-salt-and-sugar cuisine, and presented a certificate to her as a token of appreciation.

The Controller of the CFS of the FEHD, Dr Ho Yuk-yin, and the Chairperson of a Working Group under the Committee, Dr Terry Ting, will attend the demonstration sessions on reduced-salt-and-sugar cooking by the other two renowned chefs on August 20 respectively and will present certificates to them as tokens of appreciation.
