Funds Research Fund for the Control of Infectious Diseases About RFCID
About RFCID
About
RFCID Welcome to the Homepage
of the Research Fund for the Control of Infectious Diseases. Following the SARS
outbreak of 2003, the Government established a $450 million research fund
to encourage, facilitate and support research on the prevention, treatment
and control of infectious diseases. Whilst SARS research was the major
focus at time the RFCID was established, other emerging infectious diseases,
such as influenza and multidrug-resistant bacteria remain a growing problem
throughout Asia. The threat to public
health from existing and novel infectious agents is a growing concern.
By supporting advanced research it will be possible to develop new techniques
to detect and diagnose infectious diseases and to treat their effects.
The RFCID is managed
by a Research Council, which is advised by a Grant Review Board and a
panel of local and overseas expert referees. All grant applications undergo
a two-tier peer review process to ensure scientific rigour and standards.
The Research Fund Secretariat supports both the Research Council and the
Grant Review Board. All grant applications
meeting the ambits of the RFCID are welcome. I hope you will find the
resources within this website helpful. If you have any comments, we will
be pleased to receive them at rfs@fhb.gov.hk.
