Other Studies From time to time, special invitations will be issued to invite research proposals to address health topics of urgent needs and to inform health policy. All research proposals are subject to stringent peer review. Projects information and dissemination reports of completed projects can be obtained from Funded Projects. Studies in Health Services (SHS) A total of 10 SHS projects have been supported and commenced in mid-2007. A total of 9 studies related to melamine incident have been supported and commenced in early 2009. A total of 16 studies on human swine influenza have been supported and commenced in June 2009. Commissioned Research on Mental Health Policy and Services - to inform the mental health policy agenda and the planning of mental health service provision in the following research areas: A total of 11 studies on Mental Health Policy and Services have been supported. Commissioned Study on Enhanced Primary Care - to inform the Bureau health policy agenda and the planning of the Hospital Authority in enhancing Primary Care service. A total of 3 studies have been supported.

Studies Related to Melamine Incident - to inform the Bureau on the potential medium- to long-term health impact associated with melamine exposure relevant to the following priority areas:

Follow-up studies of affected persons, particularly those assessed to be at higher risk of adverse health outcomes;

Laboratory testing of melamine and analogues; and
-
Animal models or other basic science research.
Studies on Human Swine Influenza - to address the immediate research needs arising from the human swine influenza (H1N1 Influenza A) pandemic.

prevalence and incidence of major categories of mental illness in Hong Kong;

social stigma of poor mental health;
-
mental health service delivery models at the primary and community care level; and
-
interventions targeting the integration of mental illness patients into the community.
