Advice for Public:

  • They should closely monitor the results of melamine tests to be conducted by the Centre for Food Safety to facilitate their choice of safe food. More information is available at the website of the Centre for Food Safety.

  • Refrain from consuming food with unsatisfactory melamine results to protect their own health.

  • There are 18 Designated Clinics and eight Special Assessment Centres (SACs) to provide free assessment to eligible persons under the age of 12 who have consumed concerned milk products and have relevant symptoms.

  • If necessary, patients will be referred to the Special Assessment Centres for further assessment and treatment.

  • The Clinics and SACs will be in operation as long as there is demand for the service. Parents therefore will not need to compete for appointment if their children are asymptomatic.

  • Priority will be given to patients with urgent needs, especially younger and high-risk children, to ensure appropriate assessment and treatment as early as possible.

  • The free screening service is a contingency arrangement with a prime focus on local children who have an "eligible person" status. Other patients will be referred to private healthcare providers to reserve adequate capacity for the locals.

  • For enquiry on Hospital Authority's assessment services, please call 2300 6555 (during office hours) or 2882 4866 (24-hour interactive telephone service), or visit its website.

  • The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) has set up a hotline 2125 1133, which operates from 9am to 5pm daily, to cater for individuals who have consumed milk products contaminated with melamine or those who are experiencing renal symptoms.

  • For more information, please visit CHP website.
