Sir Robert Ho Tung Fund allocates $12M

The Sir Robert Ho Tung Charitable Fund has recently allocated over $12 million to 115 charitable projects in the areas of health, medicine, rehabilitation, social welfare and special education.

"This generous donation enables 83 organisations to improve and extend their services for the benefit of the local community," chairman of the Fund's Allocation Committee and Deputy Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food, Mr Robin Gill, said today (July 17).

Among the projects, some of the major grants included:

* a sum of $1.7 million for the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals to acquire equipment and aids for elderly and chronically ill patients; 

* $0.6 million for the Princess of Margaret Hospital to provide transport services to elderly patients; 

* $0.5 million for the Samaritan Fund to provide financial assistance to needy patients in public hospitals/clinics; 

* $0.4 million for the Hong Kong Eye Hospital to procure a ophthalmic imaging system for patients with eye disease; 

* $0.4 million for The Family Planning Association of Hong Kong to replace the air-conditioning system in their operation theatre and ward; and

* $0.3 million for the Samaritans Multi-Lingual Suicide Prevention Service to produce a training video for volunteers. 

Other fund recipients included Po Leung Kuk, Hong Kong Red Cross, The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Hong Kong), Hong Kong St. John Ambulance, Cheshire Home, Life Education Activity Programme, and Baptist Church, Sisters of the Precious Blood, etc.

As one of the major trust funds in Hong Kong, The Sir Robert Ho Tung Charitable Fund was set up in 1956 with a bequest of $500,000 by the late Sir Robert Ho Tung. It is now managed by the HSBC Trustee (Hong Kong) Ltd.
