Appointment and re-appointment of Elderly Commission Members

The Government today (July 25) announced the appointment of a new member and re-appointment of six incumbent members to the Elderly Commission (EC). The appointments, which will take effect from July 30, 2002, will be published in the gazette tomorrow (July 26).

The new member appointed to the EC for an initial term of two years is Ms Anita Wong Yiu-ming. Ms Wong is an experienced social worker who has been serving in the elderly field for over 20 years and actively involved in elder service development through various levels of participation.

The six incumbent members who have been re-appointed are Prof Alfred Chan Cheung-ming, Mr Michael Lai Kam-cheung, Mrs Peggy Lam Pei Yu-dja, Dr Ng Yau-yung, Dr Shum Ping-shiu and Mr Peter Wong Hong-yuen.

The Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food, Dr E K Yeoh, welcomed the new appointment and re-appointment of members and said he would look forward to their contribution to the development of elderly services in Hong Kong.

Dr Yeoh also expressed gratitude to the Hon Mr Bernard Chan, who will retire from the EC upon the expiry of his term of office on July 30, 2002. Dr Yeoh said Mr Chan had tendered valuable advice to the EC during his tenure with his broad experience in the business and insurance fields.
