SHWF to study food safety control in New Zealand

The Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food, Dr Yeoh Eng-kiong, will pay a four-day visit to New Zealand between next Monday (September 9) and Thursday (September 12) to study the country's food safety control and its applicability in Hong Kong.

In the first stop of his visit in Wellington, Dr Yeoh will call on the New Zealand Food Safety Authority where he will be briefed on the country's approach to managing food risks. He will also hold discussion with the Minister for Food Safety of New Zealand, the Honourable Annette King, and the Executive Director of Food Safety Authority, Dr Andrew McKenzie.

On Tuesday, Dr Yeoh will arrive in Auckland where he will visit beef, mutton and pork processing plants and fresh food produce wholesale markets.

He will observe the food import control operations at the Port of Auckland and study the biosecurity and quarantine service implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

Dr Yeoh will depart Auckland for Hong Kong on Thursday.

Members of the delegation include the Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene, Mr Gregory Leung Wing-lap; Deputy Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene, Dr Mak Sin-ping; and Deputy Director of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation, Dr Liu Kwei-kin.
