Appointment to the Hospital Authority

The Government announced today (November 29) the appointment of Mr Clifton Chiu Chi-cheong, Mr Edward Ho Sing-tin, Professor Judy Tsui Lam Sin-lai and Dr Lawrence T Wong as members of the Hospital Authority for a period of two years with effect from December 1, 2002.

Mr Clifton Chiu, a Certified Public Accountant, is currently the co-opted chairman of the Audit Committee of the Hospital Authority. He has been chairman of the Hospital Governing Committee of Kwai Chung Hospital since 1998.

Mr Edward Ho is a distinguished professional architect with extensive public service experiences. He was a former Member of the Executive Council (1991-92) and served as a Member of the Legislative Council (1987-2000). 

Professor Judy Tsui is the Dean of the Faculty of Business and Information Systems of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She has a wealth of experience in the field of corporate governance and has served on the Corporate Governance Committee of the Hong Kong Society of Accountants (1998-2001).

Dr Lawrence Wong is the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Jockey Club. He is active in public and community services. Dr Wong is the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Institute of Chinese Medicine Limited.

The Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food, Dr E K YEOH, thanked the Hon Mrs Sophie Leung Lau Yau-fun, founding member of the Hospital Authority Board, for her invaluable advice and contribution to the Hospital Authority during the past 12 years. She will retire from the Board on December 1, 2002.

The Hospital Authority, as from December 1, 2002, will comprise a chairman, 23 non-official members, three public officers and one principal officer from the Hospital Authority. The new membership list of the Hospital Authority is as follows -
