Appointments to Community Investment and Inclusion Fund Committee (CIIF)
The Government announced today (April 1) the re-appointment of the chairperson,
Dr Wu Wai-yung, Raymond to the Community Investment and Inclusion Fund (CIIF)
Committee.
Ms Sophia Kao, an incumbent member of the committee since its establishment
three years ago, was appointed as the vice-chairperson.
In addition, five new members were appointed to the committee. They are Mr Chow
Ching-lam, Tony; Mr Kwan Chuk-fai; Dr Lam Ching-choi; Ms Lau Ka-shi, Betsy; and
Mr Ng Chi-wing, Stephen.
The above re-appointment/appointments will take effect from today (April 1) for
a term of three years.
Mr Chow is an appointed district councillor of Wong Tai Sin District as well as
the chairman/president of a number of territory-wide industry organisations.
Despite his background as a businessman, Mr Chow has rich experience in
organising youth activities at district levels.
Mr Kwan is the general manager (corporate communication) of NWS Holdings Ltd. He
also serves on the Sub-Committee on Promotion of Corporate Volunteering of the
Social Welfare Department (SWD) and has been an active member in promoting
volunteering work in the business sector.
Dr Lam is the chief executive of the Haven of Hope Christian Service which
provides welfare and health services. He is also a member of the Sai Kung
District Council with hands-on experience in mobilising support from local
groups in developing community projects.
Ms Lau is the managing director and chief executive officer of the Bank
Consortium Trust Company Limited. She is familiar with the CIIF and the concepts
of social capital.
Mr Ng is the community services secretary of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals which
has first-hand experience in community projects. He is also a member of SWD's
Sub-Committee on Promotion of Corporate Volunteering and has previously served
in some other welfare-related committees such as the Social Welfare Advisory
Committee.
In this new round of appointments, seven incumbent members have been
re-appointed for a term of two years. They are Dr Chan Sze-tong, Thomas; Dr Kwok
Kin-fun, Joseph; Dr Leung Man-kit, Christopher; Mr Tso Kai-lok; Mr Wong Siu-yee;
Ms Yu Sau-chu, Jessie; and Prof Yuen Tsang Woon-ki, Angelina.
The Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food, Dr York Chow, noted the
appointment/re-appointment exercise involved representatives from a variety of
social backgrounds. He looked forward to their contribution to the committee and
the continued promotion of social capital in Hong Kong.
Dr Chow also thanked the three outgoing members - Ms Fang Meng-sang, Christine;
Mrs Lee Cheung Wai-mi, Julita; and Mrs Ng Wong Yee-man, Gloria - for their
contribution to the work of the committee during their tenure.
The $300-million CIIF was established in 2002 to encourage mutual concern and
help among people, to further develop community support network and to promote
community participation. The CIIF committee is tasked with considering and
approving funding for applications and advising the Government on the
development of social capital.
