Applications for Health Care and Promotion Fund invited
The Health, Welfare and Food Bureau is inviting applications for the Health Care
and Promotion Fund (HCPF).
The application call invites specifically non-research health promotion projects
from non-profit-making organisations or registered community groups or groups
formed under registered non-profit-making bodies.
A spokesman for the Health, Welfare and Food Bureau said today (May 2) that the
HCPF was established by the Government in May, 1995, for the purpose of
heightening awareness of the importance of health promotion and disease
prevention.
The HCPF supports projects that help people adopt healthier lifestyles by
enhancing awareness, changing behaviour or creating an environment that supports
good health practices.
"A new feature of this call is the adoption of thematic priorities so as to
better target health promotion activities," the spokesman said.
Higher funding priorities will be accorded to the following areas:
* Tobacco control.
* Nutrition and physical activity.
* Injury prevention (traffic and occupational).
* Communicable diseases, and,
* Poisoning (food and drug).
"Applications which fall outside the above priorities will still be considered,
although they will have a lower funding preference," the spokesman said.
The closing date of applications is July 29, 2005. All applications will be
assessed by the Health Care and Promotion Fund Committee and its sub-committee,
namely the Promotion Sub-committee which comprises health care professionals and
experts, individuals closely involved in community affairs, and government
representatives.
Successful applicants may be awarded full or partial support normally not
exceeding $300,000 on a one-off basis.
