HWFB to launch International Festival of Inclusive Arts in late 2006
The Health, Welfare and Food Bureau will organise a weeklong International
Festival of Inclusive Arts at the end of next year to promote a better
understanding of the talents of people with disabilities.
The event would also aim to encourage people with disabilities to actively take
part in arts and cultural activities through appreciating the professional
performances of local artists and performing groups as well as those from the
Mainland and overseas.
Speaking at the launching ceremony of She Brings Me Dreams V Memorial Book of
Dr Marion Fang in the Government House tonight (May 13), the Secretary for
Health, Welfare and Food, Dr York Chow, said Hong Kong first held a festival of
arts with the disabled in 1986 under the auspices of the late Dr Fang and the
festival had received overwhelming response from the society.
"In order to continue with the good work laid by the late Dr Fang, we will
launch an International Festival of Inclusive Arts on December 3 next year, to
coincide with the International Day of Disabled Persons," he said.
The festival would include performing arts programmes such as musical,
theatrical, dancing performances and exhibitions of contemporary work of art.
There will also be a carnival event to encourage public participation.
Dr Chow said: We will invite interested and experienced organisations to
jointly organise the festival.
"The Arts with the Disabled Association Hong Kong has accepted our invitation.
We welcome our friends in the rehabilitation field to actively participate in
and support the festival.
"Together with activities to celebrate the International Day of Disabled Persons
in the 18 districts each year, we expect the festival would definitely be a
fabulous event.
