SHWF to attend food safety and health meetings in Beijing, Kunming and Ottawa
The Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food, Dr York Chow, will visit Beijing,
Kunming, Yunnan and Ottawa, Canada from Wednesday (October 19) to October 27 for
meetings on food safety and health.
He will leave for Beijing on Wednesday for the signing of a Co-operation
Arrangement with the State General Administration for Quality Supervision,
Inspection and Quarantine on October 20 to further enhance the cooperation of
food safety, inspection and quarantine between the Mainland and Hong Kong.
Joining Dr Chow in the Beijing trip are the Director and Deputy Director of Food
and Environmental Hygiene, Mr Gregory Leung and Dr Mak Sin-ping.
Dr Chow will then depart for Kunming, Yunnan on October 20 to lead the Hong Kong
delegation to attend the Fourth Joint Meeting of Senior Health Officials of the
Mainland, Hong Kong and Macao to be held on Friday and Saturday (October 21 and
22).
Members of the Hong Kong delegation include the Director of Health, Dr Lam Ping-yan;
Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene, Mr Gregory Leung; Controller of
Centre for Health Protection, Dr Leung Pak-yin; Chief Executive of Hospital
Authority (HA), Dr Vivian Wong; Deputy Director of Food and Environmental
Hygiene, Dr Mak Sin-ping; Director (Professional Services and Operations) of HA,
Dr Cheung Wai-lun; and Deputy Secretaries for Health, Welfare and Food, Ms Susie
Ho and Mrs Ingrid Yeung.
Dr Chow will return from Kunming to Hong Kong on October 22.
After visiting the Mainland, Dr Chow will fly to Canada on Sunday (October 23)
to attend an international meeting of Ministers of Health to be held in Ottawa
on October 24 and 25 to enhance global collaboration and coordination in advance
of a possible influenza pandemic. He will take part in the meeting as part of
the Chinese delegation. Accompanying Dr Chow will be Deputy Secretary for
Health, Welfare and Food, Ms Susie Ho; and Principal Medical and Health Officer
of Department of Health, Dr Chuang Shuk-kwan.
Dr Chow will return to Hong Kong on October 27.
