SFH on columbarium facilities

< Back

Following is a transcript of the remarks by the Secretary for Food and Health, Dr York Chow, at a stand-up media session after attending a radio programme today (October 19):

Reporter: (about columbarium facilities)

Secretary for Food and Health: Hong Kong is facing a shortage of columbariums or this type of service. Over the years we have been trying very hard to find new places to build columbarium, but as you know that every time we spot the place or try to find any suitable places, we always face opposition from the residents and the District Councils. It is not an easy task but we will keep on trying. At the same time, we are looking at other innovative ideas such as whether we can use an industrial building for that purpose. This is not an easy task again. It also requires various government departments to scrutinise their policies and to ensure that it can get approval from the residents of different districts.
