SFH on organ donation

< Back

Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Ko Wing-man, after attending a public function today (June 11):

Reporter: How about the meeting with the organ donation stakeholders? Can you tell more about what will be discussed in the meeting?

Secretary for Food and Health: The Government will kick off a round of discussion this week by inviting stakeholders involving in organ transplant and donation as well as patients' (interests) advocates to discuss on certain issues or suggestions relating to the promotion of organ donation. These issues will include the so-called opt out legislation as well as whether the lower age limit for living organ donors should be relaxed or not. Another subject would be related to the so-called crossover transplant between different families. These three subjects all involve certain issues of concern in relation to the values of the society, therefore we need to gauge the sentiments of the members of community on these initiatives before we can formally consider whether they should be adopted to promote organ donation.
