Appointments to the Hospital Authority

The Government announced today (Friday) the re-appointment of Mr Peter Woo Kwong-ching as the Chairman of the Hospital Authority (the Authority) for one year with effect from 1 April 1999.

Since his first appointment as Chairman in 1995, the Authority has continued to enhance its commitment to achieving quality health care, through the provision of a caring, competent, efficient and accountable service.

"I am confident that under Mr Woo's able chairmanship, the Authority will continue to build upon its strong foundation in providing quality public hospital services to cater for the needs of the community," the Secretary for Health and Welfare, Mrs Katherine Fok, said.

Mr Frank Pong Fai and Dr Raymond Wu Wai-yung, who have rendered valuable service to the Authority since their first appointment in April 1997, have been re-appointed for a period of two years with effect from 1 April 1999.

Mrs Katherine Fok thanked Mr John Chan Cho-chak for his unfailing support and invaluable service to the Authority and expressed regret that he would be stepping down from the Authority on 1 April 1999 due to his other heavy commitments.

She thanked all incumbent members of the Authority for their past contributions and looked forward to their continued participation in the efforts to improve the quality of patient care in Hong Kong.
