Three new members appointed to the Elderly Commission
The Government today (Thursday) announced the appointment of three new members to the Elderly Commission (EC) to further broaden its representation. They are Mr Peter Wong Hong-yuen, Dr Alfred Chan Cheung-ming and Mr Michael Lai Kam-cheung.
Mr Peter Wong Hong-yuen, currently Chairman of the Social Welfare Advisory Committee, had extensive experience in public service. His appointment will provide a useful link between the two committees.
Dr Alfred Chan Cheung-ming is an Associate Professor of the Department of Applied Social Studies at the City University of Hong Kong. He has many years of research work and practical experience in gerontology with numerous publications in the field.
Mr Michael Lai Kam-cheung, Chief Executive Officer of St. James' Settlement, has been actively involved in the development of services for the elderly.
The appointments will be for a period of one year with effect from July 30, 1999. They will be published in the gazette tomorrow (Friday).
Welcoming the appointment of the new members, Acting Secretary for Health and Welfare, Mr Gregory Leung, said he looked forward to their contributing to the development of elderly services in Hong Kong.
