Secretary for Health and Welfare visits welfare facilities

< Back

The Government has developed an effective and close working relationship with the welfare sector over the years in providing sophisticated levels of service to support those in need in our community,  the Secretary for Health and Welfare, Dr E K Yeoh, said after visiting the Christian Family Service Centre (CFSC) headquarters' complex in Tsui Ping Road, Kwun Tong, this (Thursday) afternoon.

During a tour of the centre, Dr Yeoh saw a range of welfare facilities including those designed to assist children, young people, families, persons with disabilities and the elderly.

Dr Yeoh said, "Today's visit provided me an excellent opportunity to understand how service integration can improve the overall provision of services by an organisation, and ultimately benefit the community.

"Working in partnership with non-governmental organisations in the welfare sector, we are exploring ways of securing productivity gains through greater integration in services.  I have been particularly impressed by way in which service providers are willing to respond to the changing needs of the community."

Dr Yeoh also took the opportunity to speak to a number of front-line workers to understand the problems they face in delivering services.

These exchanges were valuable and helpful in the formulation of policies, he said.
