"A Society for All" souvenir cover design contest

< Back

Members of public wishing to enter the souvenir cover design competition with the theme on "A Society for All" are reminded to submit their entries by the end of this month.

The territory-wide competition is jointly organised by the Health and Welfare Bureau (HWB), the Hongkong Post and the Rehabilitation Advisory Committee's Sub-Committee on Public Education on Rehabilitation to mark the conclusion of the Asian and Pacific Decade of Disabled Persons.

A spokesman for HWB said the United Nation's Economic and Social Commission of Asia and the Pacific had declared the period from 1993-2002 as the Asian and Pacific Decade of Disabled Persons.

"The objective of the Decade is to promote equal opportunities and full participation for people with disabilities in the Asia and Pacific region so as to foster the integration of the disabled into the community.

"With the theme on 'A Society for All', the competition will place special emphasis on the achievements of disabled persons in various fields and their contributions to society.

"This would help enhancing public understanding of the fact that given appropriate training and opportunity, it is possible for people with disabilities to develop their potential and participate fully in the community," the spokesman said.

The souvenir cover design competition is open to all residents of Hong Kong, irrespective of age. A total of eight winning entries will be selected. Winners will be awarded with certificates of merit and up to HK$5,000 in cash prize.

Entry forms are available at all post offices (except mobile post offices), Home Affairs Department's District Offices and HWB's Rehabilitation Division on 20th floor, Murray Building, 2 Garden Road, Central, Hong Kong. The forms can also be downloaded from HWB's web site at http://www.info.gov.hk/hwb.

Entries must be sent by the deadline of April 30, 2002 to the Hongkong Post Philatelic Bureau, 1st floor, Trade Square, 681 Cheung Sha Wan Road, Kowloon, either by mail or in person.

Selection of winners will take place in May/June 2002. Results of the Competition will be announced on July 15, 2002.
