Dr. Adrian Cheng, ladies and gentlemen,

  1. Good evening and a warm welcome to everyone. It gives me great pleasure to join you at the kick-off dinner event for the Global Aspiring Medics Conference, which is now in its third year.
  2. I always felt energised. The conference is a great opportunity for Hong Kong’s secondary school students from diverse backgrounds who aspire to pursue a career in the medical field to broaden their understanding of the breadth of career paths within the field of medicine. Through inspiring forums and workshops led by the dean, medical professors, researchers and practitioners, students have the invaluable opportunity to gain insights into many areas of the medical sector, including medicine, biomedical science, nursing, and psychology and the various academic pathways to achieve success in these fields.
  3. Career education plays a significant role in facilitating secondary school students in their transition to their future career. Research shows that with guidance and exposure, students become more engaged and feel more supported in making informed decisions about their subject choices and career paths. I hope the annual Global Aspiring Medic Conference will help students identify their future academic and career passions and wish the event every success!
  4. Lastly, I believe that all of you are aware of the establishment of the new government term on 1 July 2017. As the Secretary for Food and Health, to safeguard public health, provide quality medical services, ensure food safety and environmental hygiene as well as assisting the sustainable development of fishery and agriculture will be top priorities on my agenda. My team and I will continue to work hard for the betterment of Hong Kong. Thank you.
