< Back

Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Ko Wing-man, after officiating at a public function this afternoon (June 21):

The Centre for Health Protection has received notification from the health authority of Taiwan regarding the diagnosis of a human case of avian influenza A(H6N1). This is the first human infection noticed so far. According to the experts, this particular strain of virus does not have a high degree of virulence among the poultry. However, the Centre for Health Protection will follow up with the relevant health authority as well as the World Health Organization in an attempt to gather more information about this virus and conduct our own risk assessment.
