Inpatient & Day-Patient

The Chinese medicine hospital (CMH) will provide inpatient and day-patient services.

Inpatient

Apart from the CMH outpatient clinics, the Chinese Medicine Clinics cum Training and Research Centres in the 18 districts, partnering organisations, Chinese medicine (CM) practitioners in private sector and healthcare service providers in public and private sectors can also refer patients to receive inpatient services in the CMH. Patients who are being considered as suitable for CM treatments in a hospital setting, which require monitoring on clinical conditions and response to CM treatments or long-term care may be referred to the CMH for hospitalisation.

Day-patient

Day-patients will be referred to the CMH for non-emergency CM treatment and will be discharged within the same day. Usually these patients will be relatively ambulatory and have arranged a series of consultation, assessment, interventions, training, investigation, monitoring and care in morning and/or afternoon session. Day wards are planned for patients who have to receive multiple CM interventional measures in a day, require close monitoring and observation on drug reaction after taking Chinese medicines (中藥) or receiving interventional measures, or have to be consulted by multi-disciplinary or cross specialities clinical teams.

Total capacity and ward configuration

The CMH will provide 400 patient beds comprising the following:

(1) 250 beds in inpatient wards
(2) 90 beds in day wards
(3) 40 beds in paediatrics wards
(4) 20 beds in Clinical Trial and Research Centre

Modular design for wards

The CMH will adopt modular design for its wards. As the CM clinical procedure normally does not require sophisticated building provision or bulk furniture and equipment, modular design will facilitate spatial re-arrangement to address changing service demands in future.
